PS: yes, I know, another post tightly linked with technology. You know, I could have elaborated on buzz marketing or video on demand. You’re lucky.
Ok, the hype in the US seems over. In Europe it’s about to begin, maybe… Some mobile-carriers have unofficially been announced: O2 in the UK, Orange in France, and T-Mobile in Germany. Nothing yet in the Netherlands or other smaller countries.
I’m curious whether the hype will continue on in the “old” continent, as I hear we have a different culture here. Personally, I don’t think it’s unusual to have to sign up for a multi-year contract, though the price in combination with a contract is unheard of… unless you see Apple’s iPhone as an iPod or a mobile computer. Certainly, there are hacks around the web, that lead me to believe that it will be possible to just use the music, web, and computing capabilities.
Other questionable factors include: no G3 on the phone, a lacking wifi-infrastructure in many European countries, no video-store yet in the European iTunes-store, and several more. Myself, I just want a device where I can comfortably surf and blog on location.
So what do you think, European readers, will the iPhone be a hit for you when it comes to your country? Are you a devoted fanboy or -girl, or is there something your missing? Let us know with your votes and comments!
