Poll: Are you getting an iPhone… when it comes to Europe?
Ok, the hype in the US seems over. In Europe it’s about to begin, maybe… Some mobile-carriers have unofficially been announced: O2 in the UK, Orange in France, and T-Mobile in Germany. Nothing yet in the Netherlands or other smaller countries.
I’m curious whether the hype will continue on in the “old” continent, as I hear we have a different culture here. Personally, I don’t think it’s unusual to have to sign up for a multi-year contract, though the price in combination with a contract is unheard of… unless you see Apple’s iPhone as an iPod or a mobile computer. Certainly, there are hacks around the web, that lead me to believe that it will be possible to just use the music, web, and computing capabilities.
Other questionable factors include: no G3 on the phone, a lacking wifi-infrastructure in many European countries, no video-store yet in the European iTunes-store, and several more. Myself, I just want a device where I can comfortably surf and blog on location.
So what do you think, European readers, will the iPhone be a hit for you when it comes to your country? Are you a devoted fanboy or -girl, or is there something your missing? Let us know with your votes and comments!

OK, you did it. I was waiting for the first Tech IT Easy author to launch the subject of Iphone, even if Steve tried it with humour…
I will definitely buy it because I am curious and would be too jealous if some of my friends buy it before me
… It may be a ridiculous reason but it is how Apple buzz works!
The main feature that interests me is the ease of surf, but I realize that I have no idea of the wifi coverage in Paris for example. This will definitely be the main barrier which will limitate the relevance of buying an Iphone. Is it really really better in the US?
No way… I won’t take it in Europe, because I already have one!
So far the buzz seems to work, 57% for! Julien, I guess you live in the US?
As far as Wifi-coverage is concerned, I think your lucky as a student, as I’m sure there it will be excellent. Here in the Netherlands it’s pretty disappointing, McDonalds, some cafes, and some train-stations, most of it requires some kind of subscription with different providers. I have a feeling, Paris is better.
Btw, I’m a coward, I clicked “undecided.” But the marketing is getting to me too.
Jeremy i published sometime ago exactly the same poll also on PollDaddy

Hey Ouriel,
I had seen your poll. Actually, Vincent, not I, posted this poll – and I’m not sure Vince, as a Dutchman, reads TechCrunch France;-)
1000 participants?? Come on, that’s very impressive! TechCrunch France rocks, you’re doing a fantastic job @ democratizing new web apps and the web in general.
