@Vince : absolutely, the shortest and dumbest the post, the more comments we get.

Regarding our discussion we must also admit that maybe it is a little too early to establish the aftermath of the iPhone operation. I mean, remember the initial iPod: its sales rocketed when it was made compatible with Windows, a few months after the launch. As you may know, there is a new version of the iPhone upcoming soon - at least a GPS version fot he Japanese market, in order to comply to legal requirements. If an iPhone 2 with GPS, and probably 3G, is issued in the forthcoming months, it might turn into a blockbuster - or if it doesn't, mean a bigger blow into Apple's business model (remember the margins on iPhone have melted since Jobs reduced suddenly its price nearly 2 months ago).

I actually think that the Xbox is a significant step into hardware for Microsoft. Ultimately there will be no more gaming PC, people will use computers for work, and every other application will fit in their pocket. That means that Windows and Office are also products that will become more niche. But all that's a topic for another day…

And yeah, Kari, I have to agree: the iPhone is not the God-phone. I really hate the idea of selling my soul to Apple and carrier for multiple years.

It's really funny how the shortest posts on Tech IT Easy seem to stimulate the most conversation… :-)

I have to add the rarely asked question. Was iPhone revolutionary? Is it the "God phone?"

At least the European launch has been a flop so far.

If there's a device that might be a surprise hit, it's the iPod Touch after January. I have big hopes that it's going to be _the_ PDA for the rest of us.

The saddest thing with this is that Microsoft has had a mobile platform at least since 2000, so waiting for Microsoft's iPhone, Zune Phone or XBox360 Phone is pointless. They were already there.

I think iPhone is one of the best examples of the difference between Microsoft and Apple. The latter is a hardware company (Macintosh, iPod, iPhone...) and the former (mostly) software company. OTOH Apple's pro video editing suite and Microsoft's XBox are just exceptions to the rule.

I'm pretty confident that it would be possible to make a device similar to iPhone and still basing it on Windows Mobile. The same goes for Symbian. What the phone manufacturers lack is the vision and design aesthetic Apple has a core competency in.

In my opinion, Microsoft's hardware wing produces the best keyboards (comfort curve for teh win, I'd buy one with Mac keyset in an instant) and the best mice. I think they irony is that these devices include no actual software.

Agreed. I have nothing against Microsoft-bashing (or any other company for that matter), but at least present an interesting analysis about it. I liked Raj's recent Microsoft-post, for example.

BSODs, that's so 1995.

Steve, you're so lame. This video's been around for 6 months. This is stupid anti-MS bashing. Some of these satirical videos are fun but it's really like you don't know what to write as a post today.
